GRP Seeks Help to Identify Unidentified Man Found Dead on Matsyagandha Express

Mangaluru, July 26, 2026: The Government Railway Police (GRP) in Mangaluru have appealed to the public for help in identifying an unidentified man who was found dead aboard the Matsyagandha Express at Mangaluru Central Railway Station.

According to police, the incident came to light on July 18 when Train No. 12619 arrived at Platform No. 4. An unconscious man, believed to be around 45 years old, was found in the DS coach. After being alerted by Station Master Akash Kumar Meena, the railway medical team examined him and declared him dead. A case of unnatural death (UDR No. 19/2026) has been registered under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

The deceased was about 4.5 feet tall with a medium build, round face, broad forehead, short black-and-grey hair, and a moustache. Both his legs had been amputated below the knees. He had a tattoo reading "POOJ YR ANIL" on his right arm and was wearing a cement-coloured jersey, a checked shirt, a black T-shirt, blue trousers, and black Bermuda shorts.

Police said a small notebook recovered from the deceased contained handwritten entries mentioning "Anil Maruti," "Kolkata," "Mumbai," "Malad East," and "Jamrushi Nagar," which may help establish his identity.
