Four Arrested in cattle theft; vehicle and cattle seized

Kaup, September 21, 2026: Four persons allegedly involved in a cattle theft case registered at the Shirva police station have been arrested within 24 hours of the complaint being filed, police said.

According to the complaint, on September 19 at around 4 p.m., Vasanti Sunitha Quadros of Nadiguttu in Kalathur village, Kaup taluk, noticed that one of her five cattle, a two-year-old black cow, was missing.

 

While searching for the animal, she noticed a tempo parked nearby.
On checking the vehicle, she allegedly found her missing cow along with another cow. The two animals had reportedly been tied inside the vehicle.

The vehicle, bearing registration number KA 19 B 5641, was allegedly found with Umarabba and three others nearby. When they noticed the complainant, they reportedly drove away from the spot in the tempo.

Based on the complaint, Shirva police registered a case and launched an investigation.

Police arrested the first accused, Umarabba, 64, of Kalathur village, on September 19 and produced him before the court. He was subsequently remanded in judicial custody.

The other three accused—Mohammed Shareef, 31; Shamshuddin, 57; and Mohammed Aseer, 24, all residents of Kalathur village—were traced and arrested at Koppalangadi in Kaup on September 20.

Police also seized the tempo allegedly used in the offence, bearing registration number KA 19 B 5641, along with the cattle.

The operation was conducted under the leadership of Karkala Sub-Divisional Assistant Superintendent of Police Ishita Gupta and Kaup Circle Inspector Azmath Ali.
