Former Minister Ramanath Rai Escapes Unhurt in Road Accident Near Karkala

Karkala, Sep 20, 2026: Former minister B. Ramanath Rai escaped with minor injuries after the car in which he was travelling collided with a private bus at Sanur village on the Karkala-Moodbidri road on Sunday afternoon.

The accident occurred around 3.30 pm, about 45 km from Mangaluru. Rai was travelling in an Innova along with his driver, gunman and two personal assistants.

According to Udupi district Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar, Rai and the other occupants escaped with no major injuries. However, his personal assistant Denzil suffered a fracture to his right leg.

The injured and other occupants were taken to TMA Pai Rotary Hospital in Karkala, where they received preliminary treatment. They are expected to be shifted to Yenepoya Speciality Hospital in Mangaluru for further treatment.

No fatalities were reported in the accident. The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of Karkala Town police station, and police are investigating the accident.
