Mangalore, Nov 11, 2011: Former CM B. S. Yeddyurappa has received a notice from a consumer redressal forum, directing him to appear before the forum on Dec 5 with regard to a complaint filed by a Coop Society member, stating that he has not received any medical expenses under a health scheme.

Yeddi-SavadiDakshina Kannada District Consumers Forum has issued this notice to former CM Yeddyurappa as well as Laxman Savadi, the minister for cooperation, directing them to either appear in person or send their legal representatives.

The complainant Lokesh Poojary has stated that he and his wife and baby are the beneficiaries of a health care scheme under Yashaswini Cooperative Farmers’ Health Care Scheme, as per which he is entitled to receive medical benefits in case any member of the family fell ill.

When their baby Chintan had to be hospitalized in KMC Hospital Attavar for a pediatric surgery from Feb 13 to March 9, they were billed Rs. 59,021. When the couple claimed the expenses before Gurupura Vyvasaya Seva Sahakari Bank, the bank did not pay, stating that the health care scheme they were part of is a government cooperative scheme for which B. S. Yeddyurappa is the managing trustee and Laxman Savadi is the trustee. Accordingly, Mr. Poojary has mentioned Laxman Savadi and B. S. Yeddyurappa in his complaint.

The consumer forum heard the case and issued a notice to all the opposite parties mentioned in the complaint, including former CM B. S. Yeddyurappa, who is party no. 2, and Laxman Savadi, who is party no. 3, to appear before the court on Dec 5, 2011.

K. S. N. Rajesh, who is Poojary’s advocate, said that Poojary has demanded not only the medical costs of Rs. 59,021, but also Rs. 20,000 as compensation and Rs. 5,000 as litigation charges.
