Formation of new Udupi Diocese formally announced

Udupi, July 16, 2012: The Vatican, the Nunciature at New Delhi, Milagres parish, Kallianpur parish in Udupi, and the Bishop’s House in Mangalore simultaneously announced the formation of a separate diocese for Udupi on July 16, Monday. 

So far, all parishes in Udupi formed part of the Mangalore Diocese, which ruled over 160 parishes in Udupi, Kasargod, and Mangalore. 

According to reliable sources, Fr. Gerald Isaac Lobo has been selected as the first bishop of the new Udupi Diocese. 

Fr. Lobo, who was born in Agrar, Bantwal on Nov 12, 1949, received his Holy Orders on May 5, 1977. He became the bishop of Shimoga on Dec 3, 1999.
