Footpaths too high to climb; too dangerous to walk and too good for flooding

Mangalore, Feb 2: The road widening work of Car street, Mangalore is underway since few months. It is expected that the road widening and asphalting work will be completed before the ‘car festival’ scheduled to be from February 6, 2010 onwards.

Elaborate plans has been put forth by City Corporation for the grand opening of the ’all new’ car street on Feb 5, 2011.


The District Minister, Deputy Speaker, Mayor, Deputy Mayor, DC, Corporation Commissioner, Corporators and BJP stalwarts are all waiting for the great opportunity for the photo shoot and press coverage of the greatest wonder of 2011.

Now, the footpaths constructed along the car street poses danger for the pedestrians as the height of the footpaths is too high to climb and too dangerous to walk. Haphazardly laid food path over the newly constructed deep drain is indeed a deathtrap waiting for the victims. God knows, how many accidents will take place in few days. May Lord Venkatramana protect the pedestrians from falling to drains and road accidents!   

 

A handicapped person who has come here to consult a doctor had to cry for help to climb the footpath.  A local woman came to buy  flower from flower market, used the asphalted road instead of foot path.  More trouble is in the waiting.


Future Shock


In two months time, rain would arrive and  Car Street will be the most flooded street in the city and would create the worst havoc in fifty years.  Hope the City Corporation will realize soon and make necessary changes and rectifications so as to save people from all kinds of mishaps.

Several business establishments including Sharda Press, Health clinics, Flower market, School Book Company, various temples and shops are crying for help already fearing flood and untoward incidents. People who have come here for various reasons expressed discontentment and anxiety regarding the construction of road and foot path.
