Mangalore, Feb 11, 2013: MP Nalin Kumar Kateel inaugurated the railway ’foot over bridge’ connecting platforms no 2 and 3 of Mangalore Central Railway station on February 11, Monday. The foot bridge is three meter wide.
Speaking to reporters on the occasion, he said the over bridge constructed at a cost of Rs 75 lakhs is of a steel structure with concrete pathway. Non-slippery heavy duty ceramic tiles have been used for the steps and pathways and the roofs covered with galvanized aluminum sheets,
The MP said a cleanliness drive has also been launched to bring awareness among train travelers.
The tenders for the over bridges at Padil, Jeppu Kudpadi and Baikampady will soon be floated, the MP said.
On the timings of the trains to Kerala and Subrahmanya which were inconvenient to people, he said there was a need to discuss the issue and increase train services on the road.
Nalin also referred to the assurance given by the railway authorities to develop Mangalore Railway Station into a world class station.
Divisional Railway Manager Piyush Agarwal who also spoke said Hughes and Hughes Company will be in-charge of cleanliness at the railway station.
