Fisherman dies in boating accident, another goes missing

Kundapura, Nov 14, 2012: A fisherman died of drowning and another went missing in two different boating mishaps at Gangolli on the night of Nov 13, Tuesday.

The deceased is Sheena Kharvi (55) of Koderi. He went fishing on a boat called Kanakadurga at Gangolli. Reportedly, he lost balance and fell into the water. Although immediately rescued and rushed to a hospital, he was declared dead on arrival.

Kharvi’s body was taken to the Gangolli Primary Health Centre, after which it was handed over to his family.

In the other case, Sukra Kharvi (40) is reported missing. Sukra Kharvi of Maravanthe went fishing from the same dock on a boat called Yaksheshwari Kripa, fell into the River Panchagangavali, after which he went missing. Local people began searching for him, but failed in finding him.

The local people got the help of the fire fighting squad on Nov 14, Wednesday, but his body is yet to be retrieved. He is believed to have died of drowning.
