First Hajj flight takes off with 220 pilgrims

Mangalore, Sep 28, 2012 : The first Hajj flight of the season took off at 11:30 a.m. from Mangalore Airport on September 28, Thursday with 220 pilgrims on board.

Five such Hajj flights will take off from Mangalore Airport till Oct 2 as 1035 pilgrims are going to Mecca this year.

Hajj and Wakf Minister S. K. Bellubbi waved off the flag to mark the departure of the first Hajj flight in the presence of Ullal Assistant Qazi Fazal Koyamma Tangal, while DK Qazi Twaka Ahmed Musliyar led the prayers.

Mr. Bellubbi said that a total of 6,800 people are leaving on their Hajj pilgrimage from Karnataka, adding that pilgrims are leaving from Hyderabad, Goa, and Bangalore too.

Listing out government Hajj projects, the minister said that Rs. 42 crore has been earmarked for the construction of a Hajj Ghar in Bangalore.

Among those present were Mangalore Hajj Management Committee President Y. Mohammed Kunhi, DK District Wakf Advisory Committee President Usman Hajji, State Wakf Board Member Shafi Sayed Nandavar, Bajpe GP President Shahul Hamid, ZP Member Santhosh Kumar Rai, MLA B. Ramanath Rai, MLA Abhayachandra Jain, Moideen Bawa, and many others were present.
