Mangaluru, Oct 12, 2025: A massive fire broke out at a scrap shop near Someshwara Uchila Junction along National Highway 66 in Ullal on Sunday afternoon, causing damage estimated in lakhs of rupees and severely disrupting traffic for nearly two hours.
Thick clouds of smoke billowed from the site, forcing vehicles to slow down or halt on the busy stretch. The blaze, which originated at the scrap yard, soon spread to an adjoining residential house, triggering panic among local residents.
Fire and emergency personnel rushed to the spot and battled the flames for over 30 minutes before bringing the situation under partial control. Officials said the large quantity of scrap material stored at the premises made firefighting operations challenging.
Police from Ullal station and the Dakshina Kannada traffic division managed the situation, diverting vehicles and clearing onlookers from the area to ensure safety.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
