Fire at Puja Item Shop in Kundapura Damages Five Shops

Kundapura, Dec 29, 2025: A fire that broke out at a puja item shop in Kundapura in the early hours of Monday damaged five neighbouring shops, police said. No casualties were reported in the incident.

The fire erupted around 2 a.m. at a puja items shop located on the street between Venkataramana Temple and Pete Anjaneya Temple. Fire tenders from Kundapura and Byndoor were rushed to the spot and managed to bring the blaze under control.

According to the police, the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit at the puja item shop, from where it spread to adjacent establishments. The puja shop and two other shops were completely gutted, while two more shops sustained partial damage.

An electronics shop, a provisions store, a hardware shop, and a bookshop—where a cracker godown was housed—were among those affected by the fire. An assessment of the losses is underway.
