Feast of Nativity of Mary being celebrated with fervour

Mangalore, Sep 8, 2013: The Feast of the Nativity of Mary and Harvest Festival also popularly known as Monthi Fest is being celebrated with great fervour by Christians across the district on September 8, Sunday.

Thousands of faithful visited churches and offered colourful flowers  to Mother Mary early in the morning. Prayers were arranged in front of the grotto of Mother Mary and processions accompanied by musical band marked the day. The processions  taking the statue of Baby Mary accompanied by people carrying baskets of flowers and  stalks of paddy  were taken out in the respective  parishes.

The newly harvested paddy stocks and sugarcanes were blessed by the Parish Priests and distributed to the faithful. At home, the grains are crushed, mixed with milk or payasam and eaten.

At St Sebastian Church, Bendore, parishioners arranged a colourful procession of the Bambina of Infant Mary. The procession which began from Bendorewell and Nanthur concluded  at St Sebastian Church. Fr Antony Serrao blessed the paddy stalks and sugarcane which were distributed to the devotees.

The Mass was celebrated by Fr Antony Serrao and concelebrated by Assistant Parish priests Fr Michael Santhumayor, Fr John Baptist and Paul Crasta.
