Fake Sri Mookambika Temple Website Scam: Youth Arrested

Byndoor, Dec 21, 2025: Kollur Police have arrested a 21-year-old youth from Rajasthan for allegedly creating a fake website resembling the official portal of Sri Mookambika Temple and cheating devotees by collecting money for advance room bookings.

The accused, Nasir Hussain, son of Khursheed Khan and a resident of Alwar district in Rajasthan, was traced and arrested on December 19. Police also seized a laptop used for the fraudulent activity.

According to police, Hussain designed a counterfeit website mimicking the temple’s official portal and issued fake booking receipts after collecting payments from devotees. The scam came to light after the Executive Officer of Sri Mookambika Temple lodged a complaint at the Kollur Police Station.

Based on the complaint, a case (Crime No. 80/2025) was registered on November 3 under Sections 318(2) and 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Sections 66(C) and 66(D) of the Information Technology Act. A special investigation team was formed under the supervision of Kundapura Sub-Division DySP H.D. Kulkarni.

The accused was produced before the Byndoor court on December 20 and remanded to judicial custody.

Police have advised devotees to make bookings only through the official Sri Mookambika Temple website and to remain alert to fraudulent online portals.
