Ex-mayor Shanker Bhat not to contest this time

Mangalore, Feb 18, 2013  : Several new political developments are awaited with  the city witnessing hectic political activity soon after the announcement of dates for the MCC polls.

According to latest reports, former mayor and senior BJP leader Shanker Bhat has decided against contesting elections this time and also to remain away from politics.

Bhat, a  prominent BJP leader of Mangalore,  has remained away from limelight ever since he relinquished charge as Mayor.

Sources say with both his sons highly qualified and holding high posts in the government, he  does not want his political moves to affect them. Meanwhile, it has also been learnt that  Krishnapura ward’s sitting corporator Tilakraj and Yashwanth Meenakaliya from Baikampady too  have expressed their unwillingness to contest.
