
Mangaluru, Dec 07, 2021: Former MLA and former chairman of CAMPCO Urimajalu Ram Bhat passed away at his residence at Kombettu in Puttur on December 6, Monday. He was 92 years old. Ram Bhat had played a crucial role in the rise of the BJP in the coastal district, more particularly in Puttur.

An advocate by qualification, Ram Bhat was a staunch RSS man who had close relationship with former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and veteran BJP leader L K Advani.
Bhat had fought the 1983 elections and won. Though he later remained away from electoral politics he had mentored many leaders like D V Sadananda Gowda and V Dhananjaya Kumar. Though he had quit the BJP once in 2008 he later made a comeback after Narendra Modi was announced as PM candidate.
