
Udupi, Feb 8, 2026: A 61-year-old entrepreneur was killed in a road accident after a two-wheeler rammed into a three-wheeled electric wheelchair vehicle near Puttur in Udupi taluk on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Madhvamurthy Acharya, a resident of Puttur. The incident occurred on the national highway in front of Sri Omkareshwara Bhajana Mandira at Puttur village. Police said the two-wheeler rider, Sriharirao, who was travelling from Udupi towards Santhekatte at high speed, allegedly crashed into the three-wheeler moving ahead.

Madhvamurthy Acharya was thrown onto the road and sustained severe head and body injuries. He was rushed to a private hospital in Udupi, where he succumbed to his injuries. The two-wheeler rider also sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment.
A case has been registered at the traffic police station and further investigation is in progress.
Madhvamurthy Acharya, who had suffered a spinal cord injury at the age of 18, led an active life from a wheelchair for over four decades. He founded Dhanalakshmi Rice Mill and built it into one of the district’s leading commercial rice mills. He was also known for supporting and encouraging fellow spinal cord injury survivors.
He is survived by his mother, brother and sister.
