Belthangady, Dec 3, 2013: No other living creature in the world other than human beings have the power to create as well as enjoy literature. Man should make best use of this great privilege he enjoys, said veteran scholar Dr K Chidananda Gowda.
He was speaking after inaugurating the 81st Sahitya Sammelan held at Amrithavarshini Auditorium on December 2, Monday in connection with the Lakshadeepotsava of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala.
Continuing,he said that man should nurture good values along with imbibing knowledge and try to uphold humanitarian values. Stressing the need to promote and patronize Kannada language and literature, Dr Gowda at the same time regretted the fact that Kannadigas have closed their eyes to the greatness of their own language.
Dr Veena Shantheshwara, noted writer from Dharwad who presided over the function said the Anti-Superstition Bill should be enforced in a systematic way. She also said programmes that create an awareness against superstitions should be conducted right from primary school level.
Nandini Aryan, TV actress, Prof. Ravindra Reshme of Bangalore and Prof. Udyavara Madhava Acharya of Udupi spoke on the occasion. A book entitled ‘Arivina Amritha’ a collection of articles authored by Brahmakumari Bharathi, a columnist with Samyukta Karnataka was released on the occasion.
D Surendra Kumar, D Harshendra Kumar, Prof. M Ramachandra, former Kannada professor, Dr LH Manjunath, Executive Director of Dharmasthala Rural Development Project and others were present.
