
Mangalore, Sep 14, 2013 : Women’s Empowerment is meaningless unless and until women enjoy equality and are allowed to live with dignity in the society, said Vimala KS, State Vice President of Janavadi Mahila Sanghatane.

She was speaking on the second day of the national Seminar on ‘Education and Women Empowerment’ organised by the St Ann’s College of Education to commemorate its 70th anniversary, on September 13, Friday.
Vimala further said the need of the hour are measures that can help women lead an independent and fearless life. She also stressed the need for sensitizing children from the primary school level on issues pertaining to gender equality and the need to respect each other.
Women’s equality is not something that is offered to women as alms, but it is their right, she added. She further regretted that it was indeed a tragedy that it has become imperative to discuss issues pertaining to women’s empowerment even as a woman fears the safety of her daughter at home. Dr Sr Leonela Menezes,Principal, Dr A Shashikala, Co-ordinator of the seminar and others were present.
