Employ evacuees, DC tells oil marketing firmsMangalore, November 16: Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada Subodh Yadav on Monday instructed authorities of three oil marketing companies here to provide jobs to the trained members of those families who have given their land for the companies.


Mr. Yadav was addressing a meeting attended by officials of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemical Limited (MRPL), Oil and Natural Gas Commission (ONGC) and ONGC Mangalore Petrochemicals (OMPL) and the people who lost their land for projects of the companies in Mangalore taluk.


Mr. Yadav is the hairman of the district rehabilitation committee.He said it was the responsibility of the three companies to provide jobs to all trained members. He wanted to know how the companies could set up their projects if people had refused to part with their land. The Deputy Commissioner said that ONGC should take up the responsibility of providing jobs since it was the parent company of the other two.


According to the rehabilitation package, the companies should provide entrepreneurship and skill development training to members aged between 18 and 25 on the basis of their educational qualification.


Accordingly, the companies had trained 207 candidates in Karnataka Polytechnic in the first phase. They would be training 211 candidates in the second phase.


Jobs would be given to eligible candidates in the Mangalore Special Economic Zone Limited (MSEZL) depending on vacancies. An eligible member from each family would be given a job on priority. Eighty five candidates had been given jobs so far, said Mr. Yadav.


The MSEZL should also make efforts to get trained candidates employed outside the company. In case such families refused to take up the jobs offered, each family should be given Rs. 3.50 lakh as compensation, he added.
