Eminent philanthropist Sairam Gopalkrishna Bhat no more

Kasargod, Jan 22, 2022: Noted philanthropist Sairam Gopalkrishna Bhat who was well-known for his noble gesture  of building houses for the poor families irrespective of caste and religion,  has passed away at his residence at Kilingar here on January 22, Saturday. He was 85 years old.

An avid social worker that he was, Bhat had helped nearly 265 poor families to build houses and had also assisted many more families to venture into self-employment.

He is survived by his wife, son and two daughters. His son K N Krishna Bhat is the former president of Badiadka Gram Panchayat.

He started to sponsor houses for the homeless at the age of 50. Abbas who lost his house in the heavy rains during the monsoon, was the first one to receive a house from Sairam. Interestingly, the great humanitarian utilized the money he saved for a pilgrimage to build a house for Abbas.

Sairam was adamant to build all the houses with the same devotion of constructing his own house. He also worked along with the labourers and ensured the quality of the construction. He was also keen on selecting deserving people for donating the houses.

He also took leadership for several drinking water projects, electrification of more than a hundred houses, mass weddings, mega medical camps, distribution of uniforms and books for students and land to build houses for the poor.
