Election Commission extends electoral roll revision schedule for Karnataka and other states

New Delhi, July 16, 2026: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has extended the schedule for the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Karnataka, Delhi, Punjab and Telangana.

In a communication to the Chief Electoral Officers of the four states, ECI Under Secretary Sandeep Kumar shared the revised timeline for various stages of the electoral roll revision process.


SIR process

Under the revised schedule, the house-to-house verification by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) in Karnataka will continue until August 8, instead of the earlier deadline of July 29. The draft electoral roll will now be published on August 17, replacing the earlier date of August 5, while the final electoral roll will be released on October 19, instead of October 7.

In Delhi, the house-to-house verification has also been extended until August 8. The draft electoral roll will now be published on August 17, instead of August 5, and the final revised electoral roll will be released on October 19.

For Punjab, the BLO verification exercise has been extended until August 3, replacing the earlier deadline of July 24. The draft electoral roll will now be published on August 13, instead of July 31, while the final electoral roll will be issued on October 12, instead of October 10.

In Telangana, the draft electoral roll will be published on August 10, and the final electoral roll will be released on October 12, in line with the revised schedule.

The Commission had earlier extended the SIR schedule for Haryana and Andhra Pradesh on July 14.

Delhi, Karnataka, Punjab and Telangana are part of Phase 3 of the nationwide Special Intensive Revision, which commenced on May 14. Upon completion of this phase, the SIR exercise will cover the entire country except Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.

The Election Commission noted that it has revised timelines in previous phases as well, citing administrative and logistical reasons for the adjustments.
