Eid-ul-Fitr celebrated with religious fervour across coastal Karnataka

Mangaluru/Udupi, Mar 20, 2026: Muslims across the coastal region celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr with great enthusiasm and devotion today after completing the holy month of Ramadan fasting.

In Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, special congregational prayers were held at all Juma mosques and Eidgahs. The celebrations included Eid prayers, Khutbah (sermon), exchange of greetings, and visits to relatives and neighbors, adding to the festive spirit.

After the Eid prayers, many people visited graveyards to offer prayers for their departed family members. Families and friends later visited each other’s homes to extend Eid wishes and strengthen bonds of harmony.

Across the district, mosques and Eidgahs witnessed special prayers and sermons, followed by warm greetings through handshakes and embraces. Homes were filled with festive cheer as people celebrated the occasion.

From children to elders, people dressed in new clothes, applied attar (perfume), and enjoyed a variety of traditional delicacies, celebrating the festival with devotion and happiness.

At Bavutagudda Eidgah Juma Masjid, Dakshina Kannada District Qazi Altaf Twaqa Ahmed Musliyar delivered the Khutbah. At Bunder Zeenath Baksh Central Juma Masjid, Eid prayers were conducted under the leadership of Khateeb Syed Shamsuddin Basith Ba Alavi Thangal Al Ansari. President Altaf Yenepoya Abdullah Kunhi, Vice President K. Ashraf, Treasurer S.M. Rasheed Haji, and others were present.

Speaker U.T. Khader Farid, MLC Ivan D’Souza, Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy, and other officials paid goodwill visits and extended their greetings.

At Ullal Central Juma Masjid, Eid prayers and Khutbah were led by Khateeb Hafiz Abdul Majeed Falili Hikami Sakafi, with the participation of Ullal Dargah President B.J. Haneef Haji and others.

Speaker U.T. Khader extended Eid-ul-Fitr greetings to the people of the state.

He wished that the festival, which comes after a month of sacred Ramadan fasting, brings happiness, peace, and harmony to all. He also expressed hope that the prevailing global tensions ease, peace prevails, and those in distress receive support.
