Nitte, November 9, 2025: “Education is not merely the acquisition of knowledge but the process of shaping one’s thinking, morality, and outlook on life. It extends beyond the classroom and represents a transformation that cannot be measured by grades or certificates,” said Prof. (Dr.) Siddu P. Algur, Vice-Chancellor of the Central University of Kerala.

He was delivering the Convocation Address at the 15th Annual Convocation Ceremony of Nitte (Deemed to be University) held at the Nitte Off-Campus Centre on Saturday.

Dr. Algur emphasized that true education teaches not what to think, but how to think, encouraging curiosity and a spirit of inquiry. “In an age dominated by artificial intelligence and data, knowledge has become vast and technology has blurred the lines between the virtual and the real. Education should not be confined to earning degrees—it is a lifelong journey,” he remarked.

Highlighting the impact of rapid technological advancements, Dr. Algur noted that artificial intelligence, quantum computing, biotechnology, renewable energy, and data-driven innovations are transforming every sphere of life. He urged students to harness technology not merely for convenience but for enhancing the quality of life in areas such as energy, agriculture, healthcare, and equitable education.

Presiding over the ceremony, Dr. M. Shantharam Shetty, Pro-Chancellor (Hospital Management), said that science inspires innovation while technology enables creation. “Providing quality education and nurturing good values are the foremost duties of every educational institution. We must never forget the contributions of our parents, teachers, alma mater, and motherland to our growth. Let us live a life free from envy, greed, and selfishness,” he advised.

Also present on the dais were Sri Vishal Hegde, Pro-Chancellor (Administration); Dr. Gopal Mugeraya, Vice President – Technical Education; Dr. Chandrashekar Shetty, Member of the Executive Council; Dr. Harsha Halahalli, Registrar; and Dr. Prasad B. Shetty, Controller of Examinations. Heads of constituent colleges, members of the Academic Council, and senior university officials were also in attendance.
