Mangalore, Dec 14, 2012: The state government, may in all likelihood withdraw the cases registered against Kasturi channel reporter Naveen Soorinje who has been arrested in connection with the Morning Mist homestay attack case.
Responding to an appeal made in this regard by JD(S) councilor MC Nanaiah in the legislative council on December 13, Wednesday, Deputy Chief Minister and State Home Minister R Ashok has said that the government would take appropriate action in the case.
It may be recalled here that Soorinje who has been arrested and booked under the same charges under which the perpetrators of the attack have been booked, is also facing additional charges under Indecent Representation of Women Act.
Soorinje was present at the time of the homestay attack and had covered the incident and clippings of the same had been aired on the TV channel. He has been accused of not alerting the police even when he knew of such an incident taking place very well in advance. However, Soorinje has been arguing that he had tried to contact the local police station, with the officer not receiving his call.
