Mangaluru, July 08, 2016 : It has been gathered that Rakesh alias Altaf, an underworld element hailing from Ullal against whom a Red Corner Notice has been issued through Interpol recently by the Bengaluru Police, was a recruitment agent for the Dawood gang in Karnataka and had also reportedly hatched conspiracies to eliminate Hindu leaders and also to trigger communal disturbances.According to one source, Altaf was presently hiding in Dubai, though there is no clear-cut information about the same.
It is said that the Bengaluru City Crime Branch cops came across Altaf’s name during the course of investigation in the realtor Akhtar Shami alias Chetan shooting case at a restaurant at Residency Road in the capital in August last year. It is said Altaf was supported in his activities by Dawood aide Chhota Shakeel. Sources also revealed that Madoor Yusuf who was killed in a clash in district prison in the city a few months ago was also well-known to Altaf.
It is learnt, the Dawood gang had offered cash of Rs 25 lakhs apart from weapons to Altaf gang to eliminate Hindu leaders in the state and that Altaf had also recruited several youngsters to his gang.
