H. Jayaprakash Bhandary, the director of the park, said that the park will soon start a help desk for the benefit of those who wish to adopt animals. He said that a rate list with information on how much is required annually to feed an animal will be displayed soon. Free passes will also be provided to all those who adopt the animals, he added.

Shortly after KIOCL Limited adopted a male panther, Krishna Palemar, the minister for environment and ecology, adopted a male tiger cub, who he calls Krishna. Soon, the minister also adopted a female panther cub, who he calls Shashi.

Speaking of his desire to adopt the animals, the minister said that it is his duty as the minister for ecology and environment to protect each species. He has also expressed hopes that his move will encourage others to adopt the creatures.

Shashi, who was rescued at Permude when she was just 4 days old, was quite difficult to bring up. Mr. Bhandary said that the park authorities had to feed her milk every three hours and give her vitamin supplements to boost her immunity and her chances of survival.

The park now has two female panthers, another panther cub rescued at Kundapur, and a 10-day-old tiger cub up for adoption.

Mr. Bhandary said that K. G. Shenoy, an entrepreneur based in Dubai, who had adopted elephant calves and lions at the park earlier, has expressed interest in adopting the cub. The park will allow him to adopt the cub as soon as it is old enough.
