Mangalore, Jan 25, 2014: The Basel Mission has contributed significantly to the field of education in the district a century ago, said Dr D Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala.
He was speaking at the 175th year celebrations of BEM Institutions of the city on January 24, Friday. Dr Heggade said he was happy to be part of the celebrations as his father Late Ratnavarma Heggade was an alumnus of this institution. He said the Basel Mission School went a long way in offering education to the poor too at a time when education was affordable only to the upper classes.
The blue print of the 3D future building project of the Institutions was unveiled by Heggade on the occasion. The project is estimated to cost Rs 2 crores.
Eleven retired teaching and non-teaching staff of the institution were felicitated on the occasion.
Walter J Maben delivered the keynote address. Suresh Ballal, Congress leader. Raghavendra Rao, Jayanthi Purushottam, Principal of BEM Composite PU College and others were present.
