Documentary on vessel cleaning boy’s ‘Journey towards IIT’ released

Mangalore, July 13, 2013: MN Rajendra Kumar, SCDCC Bank Chairman, released a documentary ‘Journey towards IIT’ at SCDCC Bank Conference Hall on July 13, Saturday.

Ganesh Prasad, advocate and President of Kumaraswamy Vidyalaya who  directed the documentary said that the documentary is based on the life and achievement of Manjunath of Sullia taluk who was a daily wage earner and washed vessels in a hotel in his free time, but still could make it to IIT Bhubaneshwar.

Speaking on the occasion, Rajendra Kumar said that it is a pride releasing a documentary on the life of Manjunath who has secured 82% in BSc examination amid odds and has secured admission in a prestigious institute.

The district  is proud of Manjunath, he said and hoped he would become a renowned scientist and make his district further more proud.Today the government sponsored scholarships are really not reaching the poor students, but is benefitted by  students who have better facilities, he regretted.

Rajendra Kumar, felicitated him and handed over a cheque for Rs 50,000 to Manjunath who will be joining  the premier institution on July 22.

Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists’ Union president PB Harish Rai welcomed the gathering and introduced the guests. Shivarama, teacher of Manjunath proposed vote of thanks.
