District sub jail brawl – warden suspended

Mangalore, Oct 30, 2012: The warden of the district sub jail, who was injured when he tried to stop a fight among prisoners, has been suspended. However, no action has been taken against the prisoners who got into a fight.

 

On Oct 26, two groups belonging to different communities got into a fight because jail authorities had provided biryani for Muslim prisoners on the occasion of Bakrid and non-Muslim prisoners felt that this was unfair. When Puttanna, the warden, tried to intervene, he too was attacked and sustained an injury on his hand. He later lodged a complaint with the Barke police.

A jail official, who said that he wants to remain anonymous, said that 20 prisoners ought to have been punished for creating problems inside the jail. Instead of that, the jail superintendent has suspended an innocent warden.
