District administration prepares for 17th National Youth Festival

palemar dc dec 10 1Mangalore, Dec 10, 2011: At a meeting held at the DC’s office to discuss preparations for the 17th National Youth Festival, which is scheduled to be held in Mangalore on January 12 – 16, it was revealed that 6000 participants from 28 states, 5 SAARC nations, and 7 union territories will participate in the event. 


DC Dr. Channappa Gowda said that the festival will comprise 18 competitions, which will be held at a wide range of venues across the city such as Korgappa Kalyana Mantapa, Devadiga Bhavan, Gokananateshwara Kalyana Mantapa, SDM Law College, Dr. T. M. A. Pai Convention Centre, and Scouts and Guides Bhavan. 


Seven non competitive events will be held at Sangha Niketan, Karavali Utsav Grounds, Kadri Park, Panambur Beach, Nehru Maidan, and Loyola Hall, he said and added that star night events will be held as part of the festival at Mangala Stadium on Jan 13 – 15. 


Speaking on the occasion, District-in-charge Minister Krishna J. Palemar said that President Prathiba Patel will inaugurate the festival on Jan 12. He also said that the state government has sanctioned Rs. 10 crore and the centre has released Rs. 2 crore for the event. 


Accommodation will be arranged at a wide range of lodges, college hostels, and guest houses all over Mangalore. Food will be arranged at Dr. T. M. A. Pai Convention Centre. Arrangements have also been made to take participants and guests to historic places, temples, beaches, and other tourist hotspots in Mangalore. 


Special events such as Kambla, beach volleyball, boat race, and others will be held for the entertainment of the guests. Palemar said that guests can also spend a few days in house boats brought specially from Kerala for the purpose.
