District Women’s Congress demand better facilities at Lady Goschen Hospital

Mangalore, Nov 7, 2012: The women’s wing of the district Congress staged a protest demanding better facilities for the poor in Lady Goschen Hospital on Nov 7, Wednesday.

In her protest address, Mamatha Gatty, president of the women’s wing, said that, although a large number of people visit Lady Goschen Hospital, which is located in the heart of the city, they are not being given the required treatment.

Further, she said that, although two years have passed after the hospital building was demolished and the foundation stone was laid for its new building, nothing has been done so far. All the ministers, including Deputy Speaker Yogish Bhat, who had posed for photographs when the foundation stone was laid are now keeping quiet.

She also said that the Congress had launched several welfare schemes for women, but the BJP government has done nothing, adding that nobody cares for the people who visit Lady Goschen Hospital because they are poor people from rural areas.

Speaking on the occasion, KPCC Secretary Ivan D’Souza said that the hospital lacks proper facilities for all the patients it accepts. Stating that the BJP is not a party for the poor, he urged the deputy speaker to resign.

Several Congress workers such as Shalet Pinto, Kripa Alva, Zohra Nissar,Vrinda, Clara D’Souza, Nagendra, Vijayalakshmi, Padmanabha Naringana, and others took part in the protest.
