Speaking to reporters here on July 21, Tuesday, the Deputy Commissioner said a letter has been already submitted to Chief Secretary Kaushik Mukherjee requesting him to send a proposal to  the Karnataka Naval Area Commanding Flag Officer  and the Union Ministry of Defence in this regard.

Being the oldest aircraft carrier in service, Indian Navy’s INS Viraat Aircraft Carrier is a British built ship which is based in the Indian Ocean.

"The coastline and the river bank of the Gurpur and Netravathi rivers encircling Mangaluru city will be an ideal location for the INS Viraat aircraft carrier museum, either on the Bengre sand pit area or on the mainland. Even a floating one can be explored on the Netravati river,”the letter by the DC stated  and described Mangaluru as an ideal location on the West Coast for the museum which if established could  be maintained  by the Department of Archeology,  Tourism Department or the MCC.
