Dharmasthala, May 5,2017:Reports say that DK, Dakshina Kannada district police have arrested six persons in connection with the murder of a person in Dharmasthala.

The body of the victim was found in a charred state on Dharmasthala-Patrame road on April 30.  Addressing reporters at the Superintendent of Police’s office here on May 4,  Thursday, SP Bhushan G Borase reportedly  said the victim was Suresh Naika (30). The accused are Vinay, Ananda Naika, Pravin Naika, Lokesh, Prakash and Nagraj. All are aged between 30 and 39 years.

During the investigation they revealed that Suresh, was betrothed to a girl and the engagement ceremony was to be held on April 30. But, Anand Naika, priest at Sri Adishakti Mahamayi Temple, Navoor village, Belthangadi, was unhappy with their marriage and wanted Suresh to break the engagement. Anand, with the help of other five, phoned Suresh and called him to Ujire saying that they have some information on availing funds under Ganga Kalyana scheme on April 29. When Suresh came to Ujire, they took him in an Omni and strangled him to death with a nylon wire at Somantandka - Didupe. They threw the body at Avekki in Dharmasthala village and burnt the body using petrol.

The accused will be produced before the court. As per the directions of the SP and ASP, Bantwal DySP Ravish C R and Beltangadi circle inspector Nagesh Kadri had formed a special investigation team comprising Dharmasthala sub inspector Rama Naika, Koragappa Naika, Pravin Bennicchan, Venkatesh, Viju, Sameul, Paulose, Pramod, Savita, Diwakar and Taranath. The SP said the accused have been arrested within four days. The team has been awarded with a cash prize of Rs 5,000.
