Development work worth Rs. 1,150 crore done in DK - Palemar

Mangalore, Jan 26: In his Republic Day address after hoisting the national flag on the occasion of the Republic Day celebrations on Nehru Maidan on the morning of Jan 26, Wednesday, District-in-charge Minister Krishna J. Palemar said that a record number of developmental programmes worth over Rs. 1,150 crore have been launched in DK during the past two-and-a-half years.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Further, he said that Rs. 5.04 crore alone of the Rs. 40.82 crore sanctioned for 2010 – 11 has been spent on improving drinking water facilities in the district. He also said that Rs. 20.54 crore, sanctioned under the Grameen Sadak Yojana, and Rs. 32.3 crore, sanctioned under the Karnataka Development Corporation, have been spend on developing 74km stretch roads in DK.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

An amount of Rs. 3 crore has been spent on the construction of 7 first grade colleges, 2 technical institutions, and four pre university colleges, he said, adding that six more buildings are being constructed all over the state. He also said that Rs. 180 crore has been sanctioned for the development of Kukke Shri Subrahmanya Temple, a 9-storey structure meant for the benefit of devotees.

Palemar also read a report on various schemes and development programmes initiated in DK during 2010 – 2011. Several achievers, who had brought laurels to DK district, were honored on the occasion.

Seemanth Kumar Singh, the commissioner of Mangalore; SP Subramanyeshwar Rao; K. Santhosh Kumar Bhandary, the president of DK Zilla Panchayat; MLA N. Yogish Bhat; MLC and Vice President of NRI Committee Captain Ganesh Karnik; DC Subodh Yadav; Coastal Development Authority Chairman B. Nagaraj Shetty; MCC Commissioner K. N. Vijayaprakash; and others were also present.

Prior to his speech, Palemar received a guard of honor in an open jeep. An attractive march past and entertainment programmes were presented by students of various schools and the police department. A total of 14 teams comprising KSRP, traffic police, civil police, home guards, NCC, NCC Air Wing Senior, NCC Army Junior, NCC Air Wing Junior, NCC Naval Junior, Guides, Road Safety Patrol, and others participated in the march past to the accompaniment of the Police Band.

The DK district police department guided by SP Dr. A. Subrahmanyeshwar Rao demonstrated the way the police function during anti-terrorist and anti-crime operations.
