Mangalore, Jan 15, 2011: The Khadi and Rural Employment Commission of Bangalore and the Prime Minister’s Self-employment Creative Programme jointly organized the Khadi Expo, which was inaugurated at Bharathiya Vidhya Bhavan on Jan 15, Saturday.
Mangalore MLA and Deputy Speaker N. Yogesh Bhat inaugurated this 8-day event and said that the khadi revolution launched by Mahatma Gandhi should continue. Stating that the khadi industry has witnessed great growth in the past decade and has raked in profits of Rs. 25 lakh, he said that even a person who has passed his/her VIII Std can obtain training at the Khadi Rural Employment and earn their living, adding that this is one of the best forms of self-employment.
Mr. Bhat said that the central government is working hard for the welfare of farmers and that the state government is focusing on providing good roads for the state.
Mayor Rajani Dugganna, who was the chief guest of the event, said that it was good to see not only the display, but also the sale of hand made products. Uday Kumar Holla, the organizer of the district Margadarshi Bank, was also the chief guest of the event. The dignitaries on the dais were Raghavendra Adiga and Veerappa.
Rangabharathi Director K. V. Raman was the MC of the programme.
A wide range of hand made items from footwear to creative wall hangings are displayed at the exhibition.
