Sullia, Aug 6, 2013: The Sullia-Madikeri State Highway stretch at Koinadu Devarakolli near Sampaje presents a sordid picture. The road has developed huge cracks forcing authorities to suspend traffic on the route.

Incidentally, the road has collapsed upto five feet deep till  a 200 meter stretch at Koinadu. The cracks were first seen last week following which some temporary repair works were done. The road was just re-opened for traffic on August 4, but developed huge cracks the very next day.  The closure of the road has inconvenienced hundreds of frequent commuters on the route.

Additional DC G Prabhu, Tahsildar Anil Kumar and other  officials inspected the road. Officials feel it may  take at least three months for the road to be  repaired.

The heavy rains that have been lashing the area coupled with landslides has brought untold worries.

Meanwhile, locals  feel the soil under the State Highway has loosened due to gushing in of rain water from either sides of the slope. The absence of the side drains on either sides too have led to the development of cracks on the road.
