Mangalore, December 20: District Unit of Karnataka Dalit Sangharsha Samiti protested against the plans of ruling government to shift Ambedkar statue, located in front of the Vidhana Soudha, to make way for the Namma Metro project.
The protest was held in front of the DC office on Monday, December 20. Addressing the protesters S P Anand, District Chief Secretary said that despite several requests and RTI petitions the Government has not yet divulged where it plans to shift the statue.
Earlier the Bangalore Metro Railway Corporation Limited had written to the Public Works Department (PWD) to shift the statues in front of Vidhana Soudha to complete work on the construction of alternative road. The Metro project will cause insecurity for Vidhana Soudha and High Court premises, he said.
The protesters also raised slogans against the ‘urulu seve and termed the Made Snana which is under practice from several years as a foul ritual. They have warned to intensify the protest if the Government along with temple authorities does not take the measure to stop the practice of “Made Snana” They have also demanded the concerned officers to suspend Bunder Circle inspector Vinay Gaonkar for insulting a Dalit youth at the police station recently.
Sesappa Nekkilu, Sanjeev R and Jagdish Pandeshwar among others were present at the protest.
