Dakshina Kannada schools to hold full-day classes every Saturday from today

Mangaluru, Sep 12, 2026: Schools across Dakshina Kannada district will conduct full-day classes every Saturday from September 12 to make up for the academic days lost due to heavy monsoon rains, as directed by the Deputy Director of School Education and Literacy.

More than 10 unexpected holidays were declared by the district administration in several taluks due to continuous heavy rainfall during the monsoon. The disruptions affected academic activities and delayed the completion of the syllabus in both government and private schools.

Special measures to complete syllabus

To bridge the academic gap, the Education Department has directed schools to utilise upcoming Saturdays fully and conduct additional remedial classes wherever necessary.

Under the revised schedule, Saturday classes, which were earlier held only for half a day, will be conducted for the entire day from September 12. Schools have also been instructed to organise special classes to compensate for the lost teaching hours and utilise other regular holidays as required.

School managements have been given the flexibility to prepare a special schedule for completing the syllabus based on their individual requirements. However, officials have made it mandatory for schools to maintain proper records of additional classes and related academic activities.

Attendance records, details of classes conducted and other relevant documents must be systematically maintained and produced during inspections by Education Department officials.

Government and private schools in Mangaluru and other taluks of Dakshina Kannada have already informed students and parents about the revised academic schedule.
