Dakshina Kannada revises auto-rickshaw fares; new rates from November 1

Mangaluru, October 6, 2026: The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) has revised auto-rickshaw fares in Dakshina Kannada district in view of the rising cost of fuel, vehicle spare parts and other operating expenses. The revised fares will come into effect from November 1.

The fares have been fixed keeping in mind the welfare of auto-rickshaw drivers as well as the interests of passengers.


Auto fare

The revised fare structure is as follows:

* Minimum fare: Rs 40 for the first 1.5 km, for up to three passengers.
* Additional distance: Rs 23 per km thereafter, for up to three passengers.
* Waiting charges: First 10 minutes free; Rs 5 for every subsequent 15 minutes or part thereof.
* Luggage charges: A passenger must accompany the luggage. The first 20 kg will be free, after which Rs 5 will be charged for every additional 20 kg or part thereof.
* Night charges: From 10 pm to 5 am, auto-rickshaws may charge 1.5 times the normal fare.

The fare chart approved by the RTA must be displayed prominently inside every auto-rickshaw for passengers to see. Auto-rickshaw owners and drivers have also been instructed to get their digital meters recalibrated and sealed within the stipulated period.

Drivers have been directed to collect fares strictly according to the revised meter rates. The RTA has warned that charging more than the prescribed fare or violating the rules will invite strict action, including penalties, suspension or cancellation of the permit.
