Dakshina Kannada Food safety officials inspect MSPC, seizes Pushti, millet laddu mix samples

Mangaluru, Sep 16, 2026: Dakshina Kannada District Food Safety Designated Officer Dr Praveen Kumar CH inspected the Mangaluru Taluk and Urban Mahila Supplementary Production and Training Centre (MSPC) at Moodushedde Gram Panchayat limits, following directions issued at the second quarterly KDP meeting chaired by Health Minister U.T. Khader.

During the inspection, officials checked the preparation of supplementary nutritional food products, including Pushti and millet laddu mix, supplied to children at Anganwadi centres.

The inspection aimed to ensure that the food is prepared safely, hygienically and in accordance with prescribed quality standards. Dr Praveen Kumar briefed the authorities on the requirements under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

Samples of Pushti, millet laddu powder and sambar powder were collected and sent to a food laboratory for testing. Further legal action will be taken based on the laboratory report.

Officials also directed the centre to take steps to introduce machinery for packing the food products. A letter will be sent to the Deputy Director of the Women and Child Development Department regarding further action.

The centre was instructed to use good-quality, food-grade plastic for packaging and ensure that mandatory details such as the manufacturing date, expiry date and batch number are clearly printed using appropriate equipment in accordance with food safety regulations.
