Manohar Prasad, the chief of Udayavani Bureau, said that today people are not getting all the required information from the media. Since every publication wants to be the first to publish news, reporters are hardly bothered about delivering the correct facts, but just focus on providing a generic view of the situation.

He said that, besides making a large number of typos, various publications are least bothered about following rules in case of sensitive issues, such as avoiding publishing names of victims. This creates a lot of negative publicity for the victims, especially if they are women or unmarried girls, making their lives miserable.

Narendra Rai Derla, the noted writer, said that journalists should provide the correct information in a positive manner. News reports should be written in such a way that the reader cannot utter a word after reading them, but is forced to spend some time mulling over what he/she has just read.

Stating that the media tends to neglect rural problems, he urged reporters to focus on farmers problems. The media should also pay attention to simple people and their achievements, besides reporting the doings of politicians and the inventions of great scientists, he added. He urged the media to be the voice of the voiceless and not just limit itself to reporting the doings of publicity crazy people such as celebrities and politicians.

The MC of the event was Raveendra Shetty of Vijaya Karnataka. DKWJU President P. B. Harish Rai delivered the welcome address. Shrinivas Indaje, a reporter of Udaya TV, proposed the vote of thanks.

Later the Blood Donation Camp was held.
