DK ready for ZP/TP election on Friday 31

Mangalore, December 30:  District administration has made all arrangements for the smooth and peaceful conduct of Zilla Panchayat and Taluk Panchayat polls in Dakshina Kannada on Friday, December 31.

The elections will be conducted in 2 phases for 129 Taluk Panchayat (TP) seats and 35 Zilla Panchayat (ZP) seats on Dec 31. There are 25 Zilla Panchayat (ZP) booths and 92 Taluk Panchayat (TP) booths in Puttur, Sullia, Bantwal, and Belthangady. The election will be held in Dakshina Kannada district between 7 am and 5 pm on December 31.


On Thursday morning, all the polling booth officers have gathered at Rosaron School in Mangalore to collect the ballot boxes. 4 DSPs, 12 CPIs, 50 PSIs, 85 head constables, 81 constables, and 600 home guards have been deployed to each of the 728 police stations. 1 DSP, 7 CPI, 16 PSI, 75 head constables, 397 constables, and 157 home guards have also been deployed from Mangalore and Bangalore as well as home guards from Tumkur.


Speaking about the election, DC Shubhod Yadav said, the district administration has made all the arrangements to get electronic voting machines. This time the people of costal region can use electronic machines for the first time in the ZP and TP.  The district administration has also borrowed 3747 ballot units from New Delhi and 810 control units from Bhubaneshwar for the election owing to the shortage of electronic voting machines in DK. Candidate expenditure limits are Rs. 1 lakh for ZP and Rs. 50,000 for TP. DK has 9, 34,143 eligible voters, who can vote in the forthcoming elections. While 4, 65,138 of these are men, 4, 69,005 are women.


Mangalore has a total of 1027 polling booths. Out of 1027 polling booths, 233 polling booths have been identified as sensitive and 174 have been identified as hypersensitive. Mangalore Taluk has the highest of 299 polling booths while compared to the other four taluks of DK, in which 111 booths have been identified as sensitive and 70 have been identified as hypersensitive.
