DK bags Indian Government’s Nirmal Gram Award

Mangalore, March 22, 2012 : Dakshina Kannada has bagged the Government of India’s prestigious Nirmal Gram Award conferred under its Total Sanitation Program.

 

Shailaja Bhat K. T., the president of the Zilla Panchayat, received the award from President Prathibha Patel at an awards ceremony held in New Delhi.

Bhavya, the president of the Taluk Panchayat (TP); CEO Vishwanath; Muliya Keshava Bhat, the president of the Sullia Taluk Panchayat; and CEO Mulle Swamy; Jairam Ramesh, the union minister for rural development; and Dr. K. N. Vijaya Prakash, the CEO of the DK Zilla Panchayat, were also present.

The Total Sanitation Program was launched in DK on Aug 5, 2005, and around 203 GPs have already won this award.
