DC warns against sale of tobacco products in vicinity of educational institutions

Mangaluru, Jan 13, 2022: Deputy Commissioner Dr K V Rajendra has directed  the officials to initiate necessary steps to declare the surrounding areas of all schools and colleges in the district as tobacco free areas.

He was presiding over a district level co-ordination committee meeting held at the DC office  on January 12, Wednesday under the National Tobacco Control Programme.

Stating that sale of tobacco products within a 100 meter radius of educational institutions was a punishable offence under the Tobacco Control Act, he said  nameboards mentioning Tobacco-free zone must be put up near schools and colleges and those violating the rule must be penalised. Those who sell tobacco products in the vicinity of educational institutions must face action, he said.

District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr Jagadish and officials of various departments were present.
