DC orders inspection of houses to end child labour

Mangalore, March 9, 2013  : In a concerted bid to put an end to the practice of child labour, the Deputy Commissioner who is also the interim administrator of the Mangalore City Corporation, has directed the officials concerned  to conduct an inspection of houses and apartments in the city with immediate effect.

The latest order comes in the wake of complaints from some NGOs regarding employment of child labour.

The officers of the department concerned will carry out inspections across the city to find if  minors are employed  as domestic help or for other works in violation of the labour laws.

The Deputy Commissioner has also urged the public to co-operate with the inspectors.
