DC orders demolition of religious structures as per new guidelines

Mangalore, January 13: DC Subodh Yadav directed authorities on Wednesday to remove 24 of the 64 illegal religious structures notified for demolition and expressed his satisfaction that people have agreed to remove 10 such structures voluntarily. He also directed that action should be taken in case of structures ineligible for demolition according to recommendations and requested information on the other 24 cases.

The DC has directed officials to work according to guidelines and not encourage rumors. He has also directed the local police force and taluk magistrates to provide adequate support to all officials dealing with the demolition issue.


He has also ordered that a notice should be issued to the officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for their failure to give relevant information about a structure of religious significance near Mulki. He has sought an answer from the NHAI within the next 48 hours. Additional DC S. A. Prabhakar Sharma, Assistant Commissioner Harish of the Puttur Sub Division, taluk tahsildars, urban local body officials, and the commissioner of MUDA were also present for the meeting.
