DC directs early commissioning of Cath Lab at Wenlock Hospital

Mangaluru, Sep 12, 2025: Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner H.V. Darshan has directed that the newly constructed Cath Lab unit at District Wenlock Hospital be made operational at the earliest to provide advanced cardiac treatment to patients.

Chairing the Health Protection Committee meeting at Wenlock Hospital on Thursday, the DC said that the fully equipped Cath Lab, located on the ground floor of the new surgical block, is ready with state-of-the-art medical equipment, specialist doctors, and technical staff provided by KMC. He instructed the hospital superintendent to take necessary steps to ensure that the facility is opened for public service without delay.

The DC also noted that the new 35-bed dialysis ward at Wenlock has been completed, with only minor finishing works pending. He directed officials to complete these at the earliest and also ensure timely completion of the Wenlock Critical Care Block.

Further, he instructed the Mangaluru City Corporation commissioner to expedite the road-widening work of the Wenlock–Milagres Road. He also emphasized the need for regular checks to ensure that doctors at Wenlock Hospital are reporting to duty on time.

The meeting was attended by ZP CEO Narvade Nayak Karbhari, MCC Commissioner Ravichandra Nayak, DCP Ravishankar, District Health Officer Dr. Thimmaiah, Wenlock Superintendent Dr. Shivaprakash, Lady Goschen Superintendent Dr. Durga Prasad, and KMC Dean Unnikrishnan, among others.

Highlights of the meeting:

* The government has sanctioned ₹70 crore for the construction of a new OPD block at Wenlock. A decision was taken to temporarily shift all departments from the existing OPD block to the Trauma Block to facilitate construction.

* Permission was granted to create a temporary paid parking facility on 2.71 acres of vacant hospital land in Attavar.

* Approval was given to purchase an electric buggy to supply food to patients across different hospital blocks.

* Various expenditure proposals of Wenlock and Lady Goschen hospitals were also approved.
