
Mangalore, Jan 24, 2014: Deputy Commissioner A.B.Ibrahim has directed the officials to ensure speedy measures to check the spread of Malaria disease in the district.
Presiding over the Malaria Control Programme Implementation Committee Meeting held at the DC office on January 23, Thursday, he instructed MCC health officials to serve notices to builders who fail to ensure cleanliness at construction sites and do not provide basic amenities to construction workers.
He urged the authorities to spray anti-mosquito repellants at least once a week. He further suggested holding awareness programmes on Malaria control in schools and colleges.
Dr Arun Kumar, District Malaria Control officer said two persons had died of Malaria in Puttur taluk during 2012-13. In Belthangady nine malaria cases were reported, he said adding 19 cases in Bantwal and 10 cases in Sullia were also reported. All affected people are given treatment at government hospitals, he added.
Dr Shivashanker, District Health and Family Welfare Officer said medicines for Malaria are supplied to all the 66 Primary Health Centres in the district.
Gertrude Veigas, Deputy Director of the Department of Women and Child Development, Dr Srinivas Kakkillaya, Dr B.S.Baliga and several other officials attended the meeting.
