Customs officials at Mangalore Airport seize 1.5 kg gold bars concealed in fan

Mangalore, Sep 26, 2013 : Customs officials at the Mangalore International Airport have seized  1,499.45 grams of gold costing Rs 45.55 lakhs from a passenger who arrived by a Jet Airways flight from Dubai at 8.30 am on September 25, Wednesday. 

The gold was found hidden inside a fan.

The arrested person is Abdul Rahiman Malangala(29) of Hidayatnagar in Kasargod. During routine checking, the customs officials who suspected the movements of Abdul Rahiman checked his belongings when 6 gold bars of 24 carat purity were found  inside a fan in the luggage box.

He has been produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody. In the recent past, officials have seized gold being smuggled inside TV condenser and also  inside the innerwear of a lady passenger.
