Cultural organizations to organize Nammadu to revive tradition

Mangalore, Jan 19: St. Aloysius Pre University College of Mangalore, the Mangalore Taluk Kannada Sahithya Parishad, and the Kannada and Cultural Department of Mangalore will jointly organize “Nammadu,” a state-level literary and cultural convention in Loyola Hall of St. Aloysius College on Jan 22, Saturday at 9:00 a.m.

Dr. Ganesh Amin Sankamar told reporters at a press conference held at Pathmudi Soudha on Jan 19, Wednesday that the purpose of this convention is to conduct state-level literary and cultural competitions for high school students. He said that the organizations promote culture by encouraging a number of programmes, folk dance presentations, Kannada talks, poetry writing, and others. The purpose of the convention is to rejuvenate age-old tradition and culture in modern times featuring technology and globalization. Since students focus on filmi dances, this event will encourage folk dances.

Rev Fr Joseph Ignatius Rodrigues SJ, Rector, St Aloysius Education Institutions will inaugurate the event. Harikrishna Punarooru, Former President, Karnataka State Kannada Sahithya Parishath, will preside over the meet. MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik, Mayor Rajani Dugganna and Writer Arehole Sadashiva will participate chief guests

The winning team will receive a cash prize of Rs. 5000; and the first and second runner up teams will receive cash awards of Rs. 3,000 and Rs. 2,000, respectively. More than 30 teams from various schools have registered for this competition; but over 50 teams are expected to participate, he said.
